Frequently asked questions
What is the bus stop method?
The bus stop method (short division) is the standard written method for dividing in KS2. The divisor sits outside the 'bus stop' shape and you work through each digit of the dividend from left to right.
When should children learn long division?
Long division is introduced in Year 5 and consolidated in Year 6. Children need to be secure in their times tables and short division before moving on to long division.
How do I know if my child is ready for harder division?
The Math Maker's rating system tracks which division questions your child finds easy, OK, or hard — and automatically adjusts the difficulty of the next worksheet based on that feedback.
